Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Hospital: Maternity Wing.

11.

asked the Minister for Health the cause of the delay in erecting a maternity wing at St. Vincent's Hospital, Tipperary; and if in view of the great inconvenience caused to the wives of many workers he will take immediate steps to provide this much-wanted addition.

My Department informed the local authority last January that I approved, in principle, of their proposal to provide improved maternity accommodation at St. Vincent's Hospital, Tipperary. The local authority were, at the same time, requested to submit preliminary plans for the scheme. My Department are still awaiting submission of such plans, which are being prepared by the local authority's technical staff. I understand that these plans will be submitted very soon and I can assure the Deputy that there will be no avoidable delay on the part of my Department in dealing with them.
