Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pay of Laois-Offaly Hospital Nurses.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if he will now sanction the proposal of Laois County Council to increase the pay of nurses employed at the County Hospital, Portlaoise, and the other nursing institutions in the County; and if he has received similar proposals from Offaly County Council in relation to the County Hospital, Tullamore and other institutions in the County; and if he will give sanction to these increases forthwith.

Proposals for the revision of the remuneration of general trained nurses employed by the Offaly County Council in its health institutions were received in my Department on 2nd December and my approval has been conveyed to the Council.

No proposals have yet been received in my Department in respect of the nurses employed in the health institutions of the Laois County Council. I understand, however, from inquiries I have made, that the Council recently sanctioned an increase. As soon as the formal proposal for my sanction to the increase is received, it will, as in other similar cases, be dealt with expeditiously.
