Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Common Market Discussions.

2.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach if talks have been held with the Government of Northern Ireland concerning the condition of the rationalisation of industrial and agricultural action on joining the Common Market.

Such talks have not taken place. If, however, there were evidence of a wish on the part of Northern authorities to discuss questions of this kind with us, we would be most happy to do so, as I feel that co-operation in economic matters between the two parts of the country—which I regard, in any case, as highly desirable —will be even more so if both participate in the European Economic Community.

Might I ask whether the Government have made any approach to the Northern Government to discuss this matter?

We have not done so.

You expect that they will make the approach to you, is that it?

I have not said so.
