Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Expenditure.

4.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach the percentage expenditure on health of national income in each of the years 1957 to 1961 inclusive.

National expenditure on health forms part of the total expenditure on the gross national product. On account of the difficulty of estimating private expenditure on health it is not possible to make reliable estimates of total health expenditure. Figures are available, however, of the net health expenditure by health authorities (including transfer payments to the personal sector but excluding capital expenditure). The net health expenditure expressed as a percentage of total expenditure on the gross national product at current market prices in each of the years 1957-58 to 1960-61 was:

Year

Percentage

1957-58

2.7

1958-59

2.7

1959-60

2.6

1960-61
