Vol. 193 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Health Inspectors.

2.

asked the Minister for Health the number of health inspectors employed in the county borough of Dublin in 1950, and the number at present employed.

The number of health inspectors including supervisory grades serving in the Dublin County Borough area at the end of 1950 was 48. The corresponding number serving in that area now is 56.

Having regard to the multiplicity of duties now performed by inspectors in connection with food hygiene, housing, infectious diseases, piggeries, stables, byres, dairies, and so on, and so forth, would the Minister not consider it desirable that health inspectors should specialise in order to ensure that they will not have to look after too many things at the same time and be in a better position to perform the services for which they are appointed?

The number appears to be adequate for the job.

We hear a good deal of talk now about outbreaks of infectious diseases, and so on, and we still have the same number of inspectors——

The Deputy may ask a question.
