Vol. 193 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Postal Address System.

91.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the postal address system recently introduced in County Donegal is causing unnecessary delays in having mail delivered and, in addition, has resulted in considerable difficulty, especially to tourists, in locating villages and towns in the county; and, if so, if he will take steps either to abolish the present system or adopt a system whereby postal addresses could be distinguished by a reference number.

The postal address system in County Donegal has not been changed; the public have merely been exhorted to use complete postal addresses including the appropriate post town. By their doing so delay to mail is avoided rather than created.

I cannot accept that inconvenience to tourists arises from the use of correct postal addresses.

It would not be feasible to introduce numbers in lieu of post towns.
