Vol. 193 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Prize Bonds.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance why prize bonds are not on sale throughout the year, thereby increasing their sale; and if he will arrange for this.

I would refer the Deputy to the answer I gave to his previous question on this subject on 7th April, 1960. While the possibility of putting prize bonds on sale throughout the year is kept constantly under review, I am still not satisfied that the extra investment in the bonds likely to result from their being on sale all the year round would be sufficient to justify the higher costs to the Exchequer referred to in my previous reply. I do not, therefore, propose at present to alter the existing arrangement for the sale of prize bonds.
