Vol. 193 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Petrol at Uniform Prices.

48.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been drawn to a statement from a spokesman of one of the major oil companies at present operating in this country, which appeared on 24th February, stating that if cut-price petrol were to be put on sale in this country the practice of marketing petrol at uniform prices throughout the country would have to be discontinued; whether he has any comment to make on the statement; and whether he intends to take any action to ensure that petrol will continue to be sold at uniform prices throughout the country.

I have seen the newspaper report referred to by the Deputy, but have no comment to make. Statutory control is not exercised over the price of petrol.
