Vol. 193 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Company Law Reforms.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of his statement to the Society of Incorporated Secretaries on 24th February on the subject of the reform of Company Law, he will state at what date he expects to put amending legislation on company law before the House; and if he will outline the general nature of the reforms he proposes to make in the present law.

As I indicated in reply to a Dáil question in November, 1961, and in reply to a supplementary question on Wednesday last, I hope to introduce this legislation during the present session. Because of the very wide field which will be covered by the Bill, it would not be practicable for me at this stage to outline the general nature of the reforms proposed; a White Paper will, however, be issued in due course.

Does that mean it will probably be altered before the Minister takes the legislation?

I hardly think so, but it might be desirable to have a long delay between the Second Stage and the Committee Stage.

When will it be introduced?

I was not able to indicate accurately but I hope during the session.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

Might I give notice that, with your permission, Sir, I should like to raise the subject matter of Question No. 82 on the Order Paper of Thursday, 1st March, on the Adjournment?

I shall communicate with the Deputy.

I should like to give notice that I wish to raise the subject matter of Question Nos. 46 and 47 on the Order Paper of 28th February last.

I should like to raise the subject matter of Question No. 1 on today's Order Paper.

The Deputies will be communicated with.
