Vol. 193 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registration of Deeds.

84.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that there is a minimum of three months' delay in registering a deed; that this delay which has been going on for years is causing great inconvenience and hardship both to the solicitors and other persons immediately concerned; and if in the circumstances he will arrange to have the office concerned adequately staffed in order that such unnecessary delays may be obviated in the future.

I am not aware of any delay in the registration of Deeds. I am informed that the position at the Registry of Deeds is that, in all cases, registration is effected within a matter of days after presentation of documents at that Office.

Is the Minister aware that a number of solicitors have been complaining for months past that there is a minimum delay of three months where the registration of a deed is involved. It is a matter of actual delay when the deed is read.

The Deputy may be confusing the Land Registry with the Registry of Deeds. The routine is that the deed and the proposal are lodged by hand and on the following day, the work of comparison is completed and registration is begun on the same day.
