Vol. 193 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of State Enterprise to Private Ownership.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now in a position to indicate what State or semi-State enterprises he proposes to transfer on sale to private ownership; and whether the proposed transfer will involve abandonment of State control and direction of any such companies.

As I stated in reply to a question in the Dáil on the 14th February last, the examination of the possibility of putting on the public market some of the capital of State-sponsored companies will be a lengthy matter. Until it has been completed, I shall not be in a position to say what companies will be affected or to indicate the extent to which State control and direction will be relinquished.

Does the Minister anticipate being able to make any proposals for the transfer to private ownership of State-sponsored bodies this year?

I hope to be able to do something this year.

Will the Minister say what bodies it is proposed to transfer?

I could not say at the moment.

Does the Minister contemplate abandoning State control over any enterprise which it is proposed to transfer?

I could not say that at the moment, either.

Could the Minister say if the Government have confirmed his decision in this regard?

Are you going to start with C.I.E.?

If we can get a buyer.
