Vol. 193 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ring Road (Kerry).

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent necessity for the improvement of the Ring Road between Mountainstage and the Old Kells railway station, County Kerry; and if in view of the narrow winding nature of this road and the continuous heavy traffic on it he will take steps to ensure that the maximum amount of money is made available urgently to make the road suitable for the traffic which it has to carry.

I am aware that there is considerable scope for improvement works on the Ring road, including the section referred to. It is, however, for Kerry County Council to decide in the first instance on the extent to which the resources available to them as a road authority should be devoted to that route. The resources in question this year include a Main Road Improvement Grant of £58,000, as well as a grant of £55,000, which is intended especially for tourist routes such as the Ring.
