Vol. 194 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Herring Landings.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount of herrings landed and the average price paid for them in the years ended 31st March 1960 and 31st March 1961, and in the part of the year 1961-62 for which figures are at present available.

During the year ended 31st March, 1960, the quantity of herrings landed was 367,400 cwts. and the average price paid for them was 22s.8d. per cwt. The corresponding figures for the year ended 31st March, 1961, were 340,800 cwts., and 17s.3d. per cwt.

48.

asked the Minister for Lands the amount of herrings landed, together with the average price paid for them from (a) Six County boats and (b) boats from the Republic of Ireland in the years ended 31st March 1960 and 31st March 1961, and in the part of the year 1961-2 for which figures are at present available.

In the compilation of statistics of herring landings, the only distinction made is between landings which are not subject to restriction and those under licence. As herring landings from Six County boats are not subject to restrictions, they are included with those from Twenty-Six County boats in the figures given in reply to Question No. 47.

Question No. 49 postponed.
