Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contributory Old Age Pension Applicants.

50.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the hardship caused to applicants for contributory old age pensions who have over twenty or twenty-five years stamps on their insurance cards but do not qualify for pension, because, since 1954, they have been in receipt of a disabled person's allowance; and if he will consider amending the Acts in order to allow them to qualify.

Receipt of a disabled person's allowance would not disentitle a person to old age (contributory) pension for which he was qualified on his social insurance. I am not, therefore, aware that hardship arises from the cause mentioned by the Deputy but, if he will give me particulars of any case he may have in mind, I will have it examined.
