Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parking of Caravans in O'Connell Street, Dublin.

86.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether any action has been taken or will be taken by the Gardaí in respect of parked caravans and other structures in O'Connell Street, Dublin, used for advertising purposes and to sell tickets for commercial entertainments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Commissioner, Garda Síochána, that there have been a few cases where kiosks or booths for the sale of tickets for commercial entertainments have been erected in the vicinity of Nelson's Pillar in O'Connell Street. In these cases, no obstruction of traffic was observed which would warrant interference by the Garda Síochána and that is the only basis on which the Garda Síochána would have any right to intervene.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to raise the subject matter of Question No. 56 on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.

On a point of order, the Deputy was not here when the reply was given to this Question. I submit he is not entitled to raise the matter.

I shall consider the matter and communicate with the Deputy.
