Vol. 194 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Taxes Office.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement giving the cause of the delay in completing the reconstruction of the offices of the Inspector of Taxes, Kilkenny, the cost of the work already carried out, the total estimated cost of completing the work, and any other expenses.

As legal proceedings have been initiated in this matter, I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me to make any statement about it at this stage. The amount expended to date is £11,600 and it is estimated that a further £1,400 will complete the work.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that his colleague promised last April that the work would be completed in four months?

The Deputy must be aware that there are legal proceedings between my Department and the owner of the adjoining plot of ground who refuses permission to go in and complete the work. The matter is sub judice.

I was not aware of that until I heard the reply to the question. Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that this building is quite safe?
