Vol. 194 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quality of Irish Butter Sold in Britain.

35.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has seen a report to the effect that Irish butter sold in parts of Britain was compared with car grease and margarine; if so, whether there is any truth in these allegations; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that nothing but top-quality Irish dairy products reach the English market.

There is, of course, no truth whatever in the highly irresponsible statement reported to have been made at a meeting of the Waterford County Committee of Agriculture. Those who make such statement do not appear to realise the injury they may do to our trade. The fact is that Irish butter is of a uniformly high standard and, with one exception, commands a price at least as high as that of any other butter offered on the British market.
