Vol. 194 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Household Budget Inquiry.

6.

asked the Taoiseach whether, further to a reply of 22nd March on the subject of the Consumer Price Index, he will state at what date it is expected that the proposed national household budget inquiry will begin, at what date it will be completed, and at what date any necessary subsequent adjustments to the Consumer Price Index will be made.

It is intended to complete the preliminary arrangements for a household budget inquiry in time for the effective collection of data to start early in 1963. It will be necessary to arrange for the inquiry to cover a full 12-month period in order to eliminate any seasonality in expenditure patterns and it is hoped to have the revised weighting pattern for the Consumer Price Index available towards the end of 1964.
