Vol. 194 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Direct and Indirect Taxation.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the percentage of all taxation paid in (a) direct taxation and (b) indirect taxation in 1960-61 and in 1961-62 to the most recent date for which figures are available.

In the national accounts taxes are not classified into (a) direct taxes and (b) indirect taxes. However taxes are classified as taxes on income, taxes on capital and taxes on expenditure. In 1960-61 taxes on income and capital amounted to 28.1 per cent. of total taxation while taxes on expenditure (including rates) amounted to 71.9 per cent. Corresponding information for 1961/62 is not yet available.
