Vol. 194 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Service for Connemara.

69.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if Telefís Éireann has made a complete survey of the areas to be supplied by the service; if Connemara has been included in this survey; and if the Authority is satisfied that an adequate service can be supplied to the Connemara area having regard to the difficulties of the terrain.

Under the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, it is the function of the Authority to provide a national television service and the Deputy's questions are, therefore, proper to the Authority. I understand that the sites for the main transmitters were selected following a general survey but that the precise areas within which satisfactory coverage will be available can only be determined after the transmitters have been brought into operation.
