Mr. Mullen

asked the Taoiseach the volume and value of trade, country by country, between this country and all other countries, with the exception of the United Kingdom, West Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, in each of the years 1951, 1956 and 1961.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the value of trade with each country (other than those specified in the Question) for which the total value of imports or exports exceeded £50,000 in any of the years involved. It is not possible to produce an index of the volume of trade for each of the countries but commodity data covering both quantity and value have, however, been published for most of the principal imports and exports in Table 16 of the Trade and Shipping Statistics 1951 and 1956 and in Tables XIV and XVI of the December, 1961 issue of the Trade Statistics of Ireland. Copies of these publications are available in the Oireachtas Library.

Following is the statement:
