29.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Cú Feasa proposes doing research on the Donegal Coast, particularly with reference to the location of shoals of matje herrings; and, if so, when.

It is proposed that Cú Feasa will undertake exploratory and research work off the Donegal coast within the next few months.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands who was the designer of the Cú Feasa; what fees were paid for the blueprint of it; who were its builders; why the boat was not built at one of An Bord Iascaigh Mhara's boat yards; the number of members and the personnel of the Board who travelled to the Continent to inspect the boat from the laying of its keel to the launching; and the cost of such visits.

The Cú Feasa was designed by Monsieur E.R. Gueroult, a French naval architect, whose fees amounted to £750. The vessel was built by N.V. Scheepwerf Gebruder Van de Werf, Deest, Holland. A vessel of this size and type could not have been built at any of the boatyards of An Bord Iascaigh Mhara. The Board's Chairman and Mechanical Engineer travelled to inspect the boat between the laying of the keel and the launching of the vessel and the total cost of two visits was £82.
