asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether there has been any prosecutions for non-licensed television sets in areas outside a fifty-mile radius from the Kippure transmitter; and, if so, if he will state the number of such prosecutions in each county involved.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 35 and 36 together.

So far, there have been no prosecutions for failure to have a £4 licence for a television set.

The results of the recent drive against holders of unlicensed sets have not yet been analysed and I am not, therefore, in a position to say how many prosecutions are pending in any district. Prosecutions will not, of course, be confined to persons living within a fifty mile radius of the Kippure transmitter.
