Vol. 195 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Mineral Deposits.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will request Canadian mining experts at present in this country to explore the possibility of the development of silver and other valuable minerals in the Fintown and Cloughaneely districts of West Donegal.

The Deputy will appreciate that any such experts as he mentions are operating on behalf of private enterprise and that it is a matter for the experts and their principals to decide which areas they wish to examine. I may say, however, that these experts invariably contact the Geological Survey. The Survey has a considerable amount of information about mineral deposits in the areas referred to by the Deputy, and this information has been brought to the notice of all persons likely to be interested in undertaking minerals exploration and development work in these areas.

I will, of course, be prepared to grant prospecting facilities under the Minerals Development Acts in relation to the deposits in these areas to any applicant who can satisfy the customary conditions as to financial and technical resources.
