Vol. 195 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saint Patrick's Copper Mines Board.

10.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of his statement of 21st February last that he had power to appoint a director to the board of Saint Patrick's Copper Mines, Avoca, County Wicklow, he will now consider appointing such a director.

The position of St. Patrick's Copper Mines Ltd. is at present under review and the question of my appointing a director to the board of the company is one of the matters which is being considered.

I assume that the Minister will bear in mind that the State and the people have a substantial financial interest in these copper. mines?

That is one of the reasons why consideration is being given to the nomination of the director.

Is there not a director already nominated by the Minister for Finance?

Is there not a director appointed at the request of the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Industry and Commerce?

I think any of these directors were appointed at the instance of the mining company themselves.

I thought they were appointed at the request of the Ministers themselves.
