Vol. 195 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to increase housing grants, as many people are not able to avail themselves of the present grants owing to the high cost of building material and labour and in consequence many houses are not fit for human habitation.

I am not in a position to indicate in advance the contents of the Bill dealing with grants and loans for private housing, which will shortly be introduced.

Could the Minister define "shortly"?

I will leave that to the Deputy.

Does the Minister intend to get the Bill before the recess in July?

It is not only the intention, but it is very highly desirable that we should have it before then.

Then could we not see the Bill now?

You will see it as soon as I can make it available. The Bill is something which I wish to have as soon as possible.

The Minister has had a long time to prepare it.
