Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Restrictions on Building near Airports.

11.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government the nature and extent of the restrictions against the erection of buildings in the vicinity of (a) Dublin Airport (b) Shannon Airport and (c) Cork Airport.

Dublin Airport and its environs within a radius of about 2½ miles are in an area the open nature of which it is the policy of the Dublin County Council to preserve. It is not the practice to provide public services such as water and sewerage mains in such areas and this restricts development. I am not aware of any restrictions by the local authority on the erection of buildings with specific reference to the airport but I understand that the County Council requires the promoters of any such development to discuss their proposals with the Department of Transport and Power. Planning resolutions in respect of areas near Cork and Shannon Airports were adopted last year and I do not know if any general policy has been laid down in either case as regards buildings in these areas, other than to control the erection of hoardings and other undesirable forms of development along the approaches to the Airports.
