Vol. 195 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employees of Semi-State Bodies.

15.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider introducing regulations, or, if necessary, legislation, to prevent the instant dismissal without notice of employees of semi-State bodies and to ensure that in the case of any dispute the interested parties on both sides are informed of the situation before any action of dismissal of employees is taken.

The conditions of employment of persons employed by semi-State bodies are, in the normal way, regulated by agreements made with the Trade Unions representing them. If there should be a desire on the part of such Trade Unions to propose legislation of the kind suggested in the question, which would distinguish between these employees and employees in private concerns, I would be prepared to consider their representations in the matter, although I should point out that any legislation which might be introduced would have to deal also with the withdrawal of labour without notice by the employees.
