Vol. 195 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Car Parking.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will prevent the unauthorised parking of cars on the roads adjoining Ashtown Gate on the occasions of Phoenix Park Races and enforce the use of the regular car parks which are provided.

The bye-laws relating to the Phoenix Park provide that vehicles shall not remain stationary on the Ashtown and Whitefields roads in the Park during the holding of a race meeting on the Phoenix Park Racecourse. The Commissioners of Public Works operate a car park capable of holding about 1,000 cars near the Ashtown Gate on race days, and while on occasions there may be a small amount of parking on the nearby roads no serious obstruction is caused. The Commissioners are not responsible for the prevention of any unauthorised parking which may occur outside the boundary of the Park.
