Vol. 195 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electoral Law Legislation.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he proposes to introduce in the present session proposals for legislation to give effect to the recommendations of the Joint Committee on the Electoral Law.

I am having the legislative proposals dealing with the recommendations of this Committee expedited as much as possible, but, as they involve much complicated drafting, they may not be ready for introduction in the current session.

But it may be introduced later in the year?

I am hoping it will. There are, as the House is aware, about 50 different Acts to be amended in rather drastic form or to be replaced. The drafting of this legislation will take a considerable time. I am not in a position to say when the final form will be ready but I am hopeful it will be by the end of this year. I hope to get it through as quickly as possible.
