Vol. 195 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - O'Connell Bridge Structure.

34.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, having regard to the fact that a majority of members present at a recent meeting of the Dublin City Council decided to retain the concrete structure in the centre of O'Connell Bridge against the advice of the City Engineer who recommended its early removal as he considered it was in danger of collapsing, he will consider taking steps to have the structure removed forthwith.

It rests with the Dublin Corporation to consider the case for and against the structure and to decide the matter as they see fit. I understand that the majority decision at the recent meeting of the City Council referred to by the Deputy was to refer the matter back for further consideration by the Streets Committee.
