Vol. 195 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Lake Shore.

12.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the Electricity Supply Board purchased all or part of the lake shore of Lough Derg, River Shannon; if so, what is the exact area purchased by the Board; and how far the area owned by the Board stretches back from the water's edge.

Part of the lake shore of Lough Derg, River Shannon, was acquired by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under powers conferred on him by the Shannon Electricity Act, 1925. Possession was later handed over to the Electricity Supply Board and the Minister's title to the land was vested in the Board by the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act, 1954. The total area concerned is approximately 3,400 acres. The set-back from the water's edge varies from place to place.
