Vol. 195 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Assistance for Mineral Development.

19.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what State assistance has been given since 1922 either by way of grant, loan, trade loan, or other guarantee towards the development of each of the following minerals: (a) copper, (b) lead, (c) silver, (d) zinc, (e) pyrites and (f) other minerals, giving in each case the fullest details of amounts and dates.

The information in the form sought by the Deputy is not readily available from the records of my Department and it would be a difficult and expensive task to compile it which I do not think would be justifiable. I may say, however, for the Deputy's information, that in broad terms the amount of State assistance given towards minerals development is approximately £4,000,000.

If the Deputy has a particular aspect in mind I shall be glad to supply him with any specific information which may be available.
