Vol. 195 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois and Offaly Road Repairs.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of grant provided and approved to repair the worst sections of bog road from Mooneen bridge south to William Ennis's land at James Dunne's turf bank, west to James Russell's bank, north to William Connor's house, and the branch road east to John Cocoman's bank, and the amount already spent in respect of labour and materials; and if in view of the small amount spent on materials for this road he will undertake a further inspection so that sufficient money may be made available for the completion of this work to the satisfaction of the local residents at Tubberdaly, Rhode, County Offaly, all of whom are deeply concerned about the state of repair of this important bog road.

The grant provided last winter was £175. The expenditure on labour and materials was £79 and £84 respectively. The work was satisfactorily completed on 21st March, 1962, and there should be no difficulty in removing this year's turf over it.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to complete the patch repair work on the worst sections of the accommodation and bog road from the county road at William Connor's cottage, south by Level Crossings to the turf yard (loading bank) on Rath bog at Cuddagh, Mountrath, County Laois; if he will state the amount of grant provided for this work and the amount to date spent on wages and material; and if a further grant will be made available next year to complete this work.

The work was completed on 3rd March, 1962. The grant was £150. The amounts spent on wages and materials were £118 and £21 respectively. The road should not require further attention for about two years.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the grant which he made available to repair the worst sections of the accommodation and bog road from the county road bridge near John Connell's house, north-east to Patrick Bray's turf bank with branch east of Joseph Keyes' bank; if he will state the amount of the total grant which was spent on the branch road directly leading to Joseph Keyes' turf bank; when this portion of the work was completed; the date on which he received the certificate for completion of same; if he has any record that any of the grant approved for this work was spent otherwise; if he will give full details concerning expenditure in relation to this work at Errill, County Laois; and if further money will be made available in order to complete same to the satisfaction of the local users.

The amount of the grant was £180 and I am satisfied that it was properly expended. The work was satisfactorily completed on 16th December, 1961, and the whole road, including the branch, is still in excellent condition. Expenditure on the branch is not recorded separately.
