Vol. 195 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Garda Stations.

68.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of new Garda stations which it is proposed to provide in County Limerick and the location of each; and what progress has been made up to the present in the provision of these stations.

It is proposed to provide nine new Garda stations in County Limerick. Four of these, Abbeyfeale, Castleconnell, Killmallock and Rathkeale, are listed for urgent attention, and the remainder, at Ardagh, Bruree, Croom, Foynes and Newcastlewest will be built when the more urgent projects have been completed. The Commissioners of Public Works have not yet succeeded in acquiring sites for any of these stations except Castleconnell, where legal formalities in connection with the acquisition of the site are expected to be finalised shortly.

As I informed the House in answer to a question last Wednesday, it is also proposed to provide a new central station in Limerick city to replace William Street and John Street stations, and work on the preparation of plans for the new premises has been commenced.
