Vol. 195 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Land Certificates.

70.

asked the Minister for Justice what are the reasons for the long delay in issuing land certificates on the part of the Land Registry; and whether in view of the fact that these certificates are necessary to farmers who are seeking loans, etc. he will take steps to reduce this delay.

The delay in issuing land certificates, which is at present about one month, is due to a substantial increase in the number of applications for these documents; the number of applications during the month of May, 1962, was 862 which is an all-time record.

Arrangements have been made for a second photo-copying machine and for certain structural alterations of the premises to provide a dark room, running water and washing and draining trays.

It is expected that the second machine will be operating within three months which will enable the certificates to be issued on application.
