Vol. 195 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Married Quarters for Defence Forces.

49.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will take steps to provide for the modernisation of the married quarters provided for members of the Defence Forces; and, in particular, if he will ensure that a bathroom be provided in each house.

The modernisation of soldiers' married quarters has been proceeding gradually for some years past and work of this nature has already been carried out at Luimneach, Campa an Churraigh, Ath Luain and Gaillimh. There is provision in the current Vote for Defence for the modernisation of further married quarters at Campa an Churraigh.

In some of the modernised quarters bathrooms have been provided but, in the majority of cases, it would not be practicable to provide bathrooms at an economic cost. All modernised quarters, however, have up-to-date toilet accommodation and wash-hand basins and, generally, where quarters have not bathrooms, communal laundries and bath-houses are available for the occupants.

Bathrooms are provided in all newly built married quarters.
