105 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the criteria used by her in making the recent appointment as chairperson of the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2324/00]
As the Deputy will be aware my colleague the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands recently appointed the outgoing secretary general of this Department to the position of Chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta. The appointment was made on my recommendation. I am satisfied that the person concerned who is an excellent public servant, with some 30 years of experience dealing with matters relating to the Gaeltacht and the Irish language, is eminently well qualified for the position.
