asked the Minister for Social Welfare the numbers of blind persons in receipt of pensions in the State in each of the years 1923, 1931, 1941, 1951 and 1961.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

NOTE: The qualifying age for blind pension in 1923 was 50. It was reduced to 30 in 1932 and to 21 in 1948.
