Vol. 196 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commission on ESB Workers' Wage Claims.

25.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the present position reached by the commission set up in September 1961 to investigate matters of difficulty between management and employees in the Electricity Supply Board, with particular reference to the delays which have arisen in the past in the examination of wage claims from workers in the Electricity Supply Board, which delays have contributed substantially to industrial disputes in the Board; and whether the commission have made any recommendations towards the reduction or elimination of these delays, and, if so, what recommendations.

The commission is required under its terms of reference to make a report and recommendations to the Government. I understand that the inquiry has reached an advanced stage. Since its appointment the commission has held 19 meetings at which oral and written submissions of various interested parties were considered. I am not in a position, however, to say when a report and recommendations may be expected.

Is it proposed to make the report public?

I am afraid the Deputy will have to ask the Minister.
