Vol. 196 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Allowances: Qualification Date.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider changing the present regulations relating to the qualifying date in respect of employment allowance (agricultural workers) and substituting the sixteenth birthday of the person concerned in place of the present qualifying date.

The Government's intention to reduce the lower age limit for the grant of employment allowance to 16 years has already been announced by the Minister for Finance in his Budget speech. A Bill to implement this and other proposals in regard to the distribution of the Agricultural Grant will be introduced shortly.
