Vol. 196 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Delay.

60.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that serious inconvenience was caused to many hundreds of persons rushing to work one morning recently when between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at College Green, Dublin, traffic was delayed with the assistance of members of the Garda Síochána to facilitate the making of commercial films and photographs; and if he will take steps to ensure that the general public are not inconvenienced and delayed in a similar manner in future.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have been unable to trace any record of any incident of the kind mentioned in the Question.

If the Question is intended to relate to the stopping of a large van, possibly for the taking of a photograph, in the College Green area one morning recently, my information is that there certainly is no basis for the suggestion that this was done with the assistance of the Garda Síochána but, on the contrary, that the moment a Garda found the van there, he requested the driver to move it because of the likelihood of obstruction and that the driver did so immediately.
