Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Potato Shortage.

132.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to recent reports of a shortage of potatoes in the city of Dublin; whether he will investigate the truth of these reports; whether he will take steps to bring an end to any such shortage, and to ensure that it does not occur in the future; and whether he will take steps to ensure that any alleged shortage does not result in a raising of prices to the consumer.

I am not aware of a shortage of potatoes in Dublin. Due to the late season the price for early potatoes remained at a fairly high level for longer than usual but increasing supplies of "second earlies" from the 1962 crop are now being marketed and prices are falling. I do not consider that any official action is called for.
