asked the Minister for Lands what programme he envisages for the year ending 31st March 1963 as regards (a) the acquisition of land for planting for forestry purposes, (b) the number of acres to be planted and (c) the number of men to be employed in the constituency of East Galway.

Agreement to purchase areas totalling 1,224 acres in East Galway has been reached and title to these areas is in course of clearance. Negotiations for the purchase of further areas totalling 3,000 acres are in progress and there are a number of other cases at the preliminary stages of investigation.

The planting programme for the East Galway Forests for 1962/63 totals 1,325 acres. There are 232 men at present employed at these forests. It it expected that employment will be maintained at about this level for the full year.
