Vol. 196 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Bog Development.

42.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have approved of the drainage of, and the making of new roads into Goodbody's bog, Erryarmstrong, Clara, County Offaly; if so, when work is likely to commence; if funds for the work have been provided; and if he will authorise the commencement of work immediately.

Proposals have not yet been formulated for development and allocation of this 600 acre bog but there will be no avoidable delay in the preparation of a scheme. I understand, however, that the Land Commission have employed a bog bailiff, that seasonal turbary lettings are being made pending allotment and that 69 persons cut turf on this bog last year.
