Vol. 196 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of University Lecturers.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons why the power of appointment of university lecturers under the University College Dublin Act, 1960, has not been given to the Government Body of the College this year; what is now the position of members of the Staff of the college whose appointments have not been renewed; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Owing to inadvertence an extension of the specified day referred to in section 2(3) of the University Act, 1960, beyond the 31st March, 1962, was not sought or given.

With a view to solving the problem, however, there is nothing that I can see against the persons concerned being appointed as graded Assistants and, if the Governing Body so wish, for internal administrative purposes its deeming them to be College Lecturers or Assistant Lecturers.

Another botch by the Government.

Or by somebody else.

Why did you not make an Order?

It was not asked for. It is not our job to run the university.

It is your job to make the Order.

Is the Deputy waiting for a hint to be dropped?

Question No. 28.
