Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Loan.

39.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the amount of the public loan recently advertised by Córas Iompair Éireann, the amount of such loan subscribed (a) by banks, (b) by private commercial firms, (c) by private individuals and (d) from State funds, and the total amount subscribed.

40.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power how much was subscribed by the public to the recent CIE loan.

With the permission of An Ceann Comhairle, I propose taking Questions Nos. 39 and 40 together.

Public subscriptions to the recent issue of £2 million Transport Stock, including the £400,000 mentioned in the Prospectus as having been applied for by certain life assurance offices, totalled £1,225,410. In accordance with the underwriting arrangements the balance of £774,590 stock has been taken up by the Minister for Finance. I do not propose to reply in greater detail as it has not been the practice to disclose the amounts subscribed by particular classes of subscribers.

Could the Minister indicate whether the loan was over-subscribed?

I have just given the answer to the Deputy. I have nothing to add.

I suppose, if it were, we should have heard about it.
