Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Shipping Ltd. Fleet Valuation.

41.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what is the value of the fleet of Irish Shipping Ltd.; and what the amount of depreciation at (a) 5 per cent. and (b) 6 per cent. would be if this basis of depreciation were used instead of the special basis employed by Irish Shipping which produced the alternative figures of £491,472 and £691,472 as set out in a reply of 28th June.

The value of the fleet of Irish Shipping Ltd. is £13,234,134.

Full depreciation of the fleet for 1961/62 amounted to £691,472 from which was deducted the sum of £200,000 out of amounts overprovided for depreciation in previous years leaving a nett charge of £491,472. The comparable figures if the fleet were depreciated at (a) 5 per cent. per annum would be £598,938 and £398,938; and (b) 6 per cent. per annum £718,725 and £518,725.
