Vol. 196 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of County Cavan Estate.

60.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that an applicant (name supplied) for an allotment on the McAuley Estate, Tiergormley, Belturbet, County Cavan has effective occupation of only twenty-two acres and not forty-six acres as stated in a reply of 6th June, the difference being the exclusive property of a son; if he will ascertain why another applicant (name supplied) with forty-two acres secured an allotment; and if he will state in respect of each of these applicants (a) the exact areas of their respective holdings, (b) the valuations, (c) how far each lives from the estate and (d) the total number of dependants.

The Land Commission do not accept that the first-named applicant was in effective occupation of only 22 acres. Enquiry elicited that the second holding was also rated in his name, despite the fact that its ownership was recorded in the name of a son who was absent from the locality.

The second-named applicant was selected by the Commissioners for a seven-acre allotment, having regard to the provisions of the statutes, particularly Section 31 of the Land Act, 1923.

The remaining particulars are in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.
