Vol. 196 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aerlínte Fare-Paying Passengers.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power (a) the total number of fare-paying passengers carried by Aerlínte on their scheduled transatlantic flights outwards and homewards since their inception, (b) the total number of such passengers who embarked at Shannon on westbound flights, and (c) the total number who have disembarked at Shannon on homebound flights.

The total number of fare paying passengers carried by Aerlínte on their scheduled transatlantic flights from the commencement of operations in April, 1958 to 31st May, 1962, was 57,496 homewards and 70,779 outwards, total 128,275. The Aerlínte transatlantic service originates and terminates at Shannon, the feeder service between Dublin and Shannon being operated by Aer Lingus, on charter of the aircraft and crew from Aerlínte. The feeder service carries local passengers and transatlantic passengers for Aerlínte and the other companies using Shannon. I am not prepared to give separate estimates of these different classes of passengers, as this would amount to a disclosure of the private commercial affairs of the Air Companies.
